Willamette Oaks residents receive second doses
The energy was high Friday at Willamette Oaks, a retirement community in Eugene, as eager residents received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Eugene resident Bernice Homan, 104, is one of many who received their second dose. Homan survived the Influenza Pandemic in 1918, also known as the Spanish Flu.
Nimrod family reflects on Holiday Farm Fire, shares road to rebuilding
The Holiday Farm Fire destroyed over 170,000 acres last fall, and the road to rebuilding has been far from easy for those who fell victim to the destruction. Vida couple finds strength after losing nearly everything in wildfire
Residents in some of the hardest hit areas from the Holiday Farm Fire are getting their first look at the damage done to their homes. Marcia and Carey Anderson have been married for 45 years, but have been together for 50. New app gives community members a tour through local Black history
PeaceHealth and the Eugene Marathon have collaborated in the creation of a new app called ‘Strides for Social Justice.’ The app was launched on Feb. 19 and walks community members through multiple historic and prominent spots surrounding local Black history. Community members have the chance to learn about the exciting accomplishments, contributions and also the realities faced from Black residents over the years.
Mental health issues rise in children as pandemic continues to take toll
As the one-year anniversary of the coronavirus pandemic approaches, it's clear that it's taken a mental toll on the lives of us all, in one way or another. That’s no exception for children, who crave and miss social interaction and even the support of a therapist or teacher in the classroom. I spoke to several families, as well as experts about the issue that many say deserves more attention.
NASA's Perseverance rover makes landing on Mars
Seven months and nearly 300 million miles later, NASA's most sophisticated rover to date, Perseverance, successfully landed on the surface of Mars Thursday at 12:55 p.m. PST. “I just remember a young man that was really well grounded and seemed to know what he wanted to do.
